Jeffrey C. Davis, M.D.

Dr. Davis was born in Decatur, AL and moved to Atlanta at age 7. He attended Georgia Tech as an undergraduate playing football for 3 years until injuring his knee. He received an Air Force scholarship for medical school at the Medical College of Georgia. His orthopedic surgical training was performed at the well-known and respected Campbell Clinic in Memphis, TN. Following the completion of his orthopedic residency, Dr. Davis began serving in the Air Force as an orthopedic surgeon. He achieved the rank of Major and received an achievement medal while serving. He came to Birmingham in 1995 to join Dr. Andrews at Alabama Sports Medicine. He has been practicing in Birmingham since that time while treating and operating on thousands of patients.

Dr. Davis has an interest in minimizing exposures for joint replacement and performing procedures limiting bone removal, particularly for younger patients. He has developed the largest hip resurfacing practice and has the most experience of any surgeon in the region. The results to date show high levels of satisfaction and patients return to active lifestyles. The failure rate has been <1% in hip resurfacing over the first four years. Dr. Davis has training in anterior hip approaches along with limited incision posterior approaches to the hip, and both allow quicker recoveries. Recently, he has added MRI specific cutting guides for knee replacement surgery which expedites surgery, enhances accuracy and minimizes blood loss. He also utilizes partial knee replacement, shoulder resurfacing with a technology called Arthrosurface. It is used for localized defects in joints which aids in preserving as much of the normal joint and the patient's bone as possible.

Dr. Davis also has vast experience with surgical and non-operative treatment for many orthopedic conditions including shoulder (rotator cuff, instability, labral tears, arthritis, fractures), elbow (fractures, tendinitis, cubital tunnel, loose bodies), wrist (fractures, carpal tunnel, tendinitis), hip (fractures, arthritis, revision surgery), knee (fractures, arthritis, ligament tears, cartilage tears, OCD lesions, tendon injuries) and ankle (fractures, Achilles' tendon). He is a premier surgeon and can treat many problems of the shoulder, elbow, wrist, knee and ankle arthroscopically.

Dr. Davis and his wife, Sheri have five children. They enjoy traveling and spending time with their family. Most importantly, they cherish their spiritual relationship. He enjoys spending time with their two oldest boys skiing, playing golf, going to the lake and attending football games. He also enjoys time with their younger daughters by taking them horseback riding and providing a special "date with dad" with each daughter. Dr. Davis enjoys being involved in the community and has been the team physician for Spain Park in the past and currently assists in caring for the athletes at Briarwood Christian School. Dr. Davis and his wife are members of The Church of the Highlands and love the fellowship their church provides for their family. His faith is very important to him because it is the spiritual guide for his life and practice.

Dr. Davis' practice philosophy is to treat each patient with respect and provide complete attention to every individual. He is diligent with providing the patient information to assist them with making an informed decision while understanding the treatment chosen with associated potential risks. Dr. Davis is conservative with treatment options and tailors the treatment plan to each patient.
